Amit Shah to Chair High-Level Meeting on Manipur Violence

New Delhi
- Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to chair a high-level security meeting on March 1, 2025, to assess the ongoing crisis in Manipur. The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Home Affairs in North Block, New Delhi, comes amid a fresh surge in violence in the northeastern state.

Senior officials, including Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, the Manipur Chief Secretary, and top state police and security forces personnel, will participate in the discussions. The agenda is expected to focus on restoring law and order, preventing further violence, and addressing ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities.

Manipur has been grappling with ethnic strife since May 2023, when clashes broke out over the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The violence has resulted in over 220 deaths and thousands of people being displaced. Recent incidents, including arson attacks on Meitei and Kuki homes and fresh violence in Jiribam, have reignited tensions.

In response to the escalating crisis, authorities have imposed curfews in several districts, and additional central security forces have been deployed. The meeting chaired by Shah is expected to review the security strategy and coordinate efforts between the central and state governments.

Stay tuned for further updates on the outcomes of the meeting and developments in Manipur.
